About this work

Judith stands in the foreground holding aloft the severed head of Holofernes. In her right hand she holds a sword. She is dramatically lit from the left which allows shadows to define her voluminous drapery. In the landscape behind her, there are hills to the left and at right, the tent where Judith is shown killing Holofernes.
