About this work

Horizontal rows of medallions edged with small incurving scallops, each containing an ornamental fountain with confronted phoenixes with spread wings and necks bent to drink on either side; small mask at top, bottom, and sides of each medallion. On a close-set ground of floral arabesques in rich gold on a deep electric blue ground. Yellow selvedge on each side; pattern reversible.
