About this work

Heavy symmetrical leafy ogee-type grid framing blossoms in 6-lobed medallions in white on a yellow background. The medallion in the center of the fabric holds a phoenix rising from a pyre bearing a scroll "NORS VIVE" in mirror imaged letters. Pattern embellished with red, green, and blue details in uncut pile loops. The white was cut-pile velvet, now mostly worn off; the yellow 1/2 twill.
