About this work
This print emulates a traditional chiaroscuro drawing: dark outlines and shadows with white highlights on specially toned paper. In this later edition of the print, Bonnet modified the bed sheet so it discreetly lies across the woman’s thigh. The earlier version on display nearby, printed in red ink, is less modest.
