About this work
The picture "Girl with Cat" is a commission for the family of Johann Heinrich Fierz (1812–1877), a Zurich merchant. Depicted life-size is one of his daughters, probably Anna, with her cat. Obviously, Breslau had a close connection to the Fierz family, at least she portrayed several women of the family for at least four decades.
