About this work

"Die Grotte" entstand in der Pariser Zeit (1877–80) und sollte ursprünglich "Die Grotte der Kalypso" heissen. Christ-Iselin spricht von einer Kalypso-Figur auf dem Fels im Vordergrund, die der Künstler ursprünglich konzipiert hatte.
