About this work
Copy after Titian's repeatedly reproduced composition. A version formerly in the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, probably created shortly after 1533, belongs to the Earl of Yarborough and is currently on loan at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool (Harold E. Wethey: *The Paintings of Titian*, Vol. I, *The Religious Paintings*, London 1969, no. 142). A slightly later version is kept in the Louvre in Paris (Wethey 1969, no. 143).
