About this work
The "Seascape with Rider" is the counterpart to the "Seascape with Fishermen" (Inv. No. G 1979.10). As supraportes, both paintings once adorned the Gasthaus zum "Roten Löwen" in Muri, built in 1660, which is today the courthouse. They date from the period of Wolf's stay in Muri around 1765–1768.
