About this work
Die dargestellte Höhle wurde zunächst für "Das Bärenloch bei Welschenrohr" im Jura im Kanton Solothurn gehalten, bevor man sie als Beatushöhle identifizierte, eine Doppelhöhle an den östlichen Gestaden des Thunersees. Diese hielt Wolf mehrfach fest, auch Inv. G 1977.44 bietet einen Blick aus der Beatushöhle auf den Thunersee. Das vorliegende Gemälde stellt das Gegenstück zur "Landschaftskomposition mit Burgruine" (Inv. 650) dar.
