About this work
Research suggests that the painting was created after 1830 and is thus Koch's last picture depicting the Alps (Lutterotti 1985, p. 298 and Exhibition Catalogue Stuttgart 1989, p. 87). A preliminary drawing for the painting is located in the Kupferstich-Kabinett of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Inv. C1908–290).
