About this work
The four round "small cloths" (Inv. 359, 360, 1579, and 1578) with scenes from the Parable of the Prodigal Son are presumably part of a larger series. The stickers on the stretcher frames of Inv. 1579 and 1578 with an old numbering "X" and "XI" would also fit into this. Renger 1970 tentatively, though not conclusively, suspects a sequence of twelve images, which he reconstructed via drawings and later copies.
