About this work

Depicted is Claude Renoir, son of Auguste Renoir, also known as Coco. The child portrait was cast in bronze posthumously in 1927 for the art dealers Flechtheim in Berlin and Hodebert in Paris by the Paris foundry Valsuan, based on the wax model. Renoir also modeled a medal of his son, of which a cast exists in the Kunstmuseum Basel (Inv. G 1970.16).
