About this work
The "Reclining Shepherdess" was created as a grave sculpture for the Georg Boner family and stood on the Fluntern cemetery in Zurich. In 1980, the sisters Georgette and Alice Boner donated it to the Kunstmuseum Basel; the latter was a sculptor and worked for Carl Burckhardt for a time.
