About this work

Der verkürzt wiedergegebene, liegende Christus erinnert an den hl. Markus in Jacopo Tintorettos "Auffindung des Leichnams des hl. Markus" in der Brera in Mailand. Prototyp dieser Figur ist der tote Christus von Andrea Mantegna in der Brera, wobei das Laken sowie die zwei Engel hier neu hinzugekommen sind. Traditionell dem Umkreis Jacopo Tintorettos zugeschrieben, wurde das Gemälde von Mauro Natale (Ausst.-Kat. Pfäffikon/Genf 1978) dessen Sohn Domenico (1560–1635) zugewiesen.
