About this work
The same model also appears in "Les deux fillettes", Ceroni No. 242, color plate XXXIX. There the girl seems to be wearing the same dress as well. A comparison with the Basel painting shows: she may not be wearing an apron at all, but a dress with crosswise appliqués, and is leaning on a chair in our picture.
