About this work
The State Art Credit of the Canton of Basel-Stadt announced a competition in 1935 for a mural in the northern staircase of the building of the Swiss Mustermesse in Basel (no longer standing today). Numa Donzé won first prize for execution with his "Hand–Maschine". Wiemken also won first prize ex aequo for his proposal "Zusammenhänge", but it was not executed because it was considered too closely tied to easel painting and not suitable for a broader audience.
