About this work
The small-format painting shows the Reformed Parish Church of St. George in Rümlingen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. In the summer of 1875, Ferdinand Hodler visited the then pastor Jakob Probst, who was active in Rümlingen from 1874 to 1877. Also dating from this period is the portrait of the pastor dated 1875, which is also preserved today in the Kunstmuseum Basel (Inv. 1831). Both works remained in the possession of Jakob Probst throughout his life. (GED, 08/2010)
