About this work
Putter was a specialist in fish still lifes. A very similar composition with a sieve, a fish trap, and the cat in the same place, but against a gray background with light falling in, was sold at Christie's London on July 6, 2005, lot 48 (RKD Image Database, Work No. 203510).
