According to Sam Segal (in exh. cat. Frankfurt/Basel 2008, p. 311), Walscapelle typically employs "a colorful variety of colors and furthermore a sometimes slightly confusing arrangement of objects in the fruit and flower pictures" – characteristics that apply to the Basel piece.
