About this work
The Basel picture adopts the composition of a panel by the Antwerp painter Jacob de Backer but alters it regarding the embedding of the figures in the landscape (cf. RKD Image Database, Artwork No. 202481, auctioned at Van Ham, Cologne, 5 November 2012, lot 505, cf. http://www.van-ham.com/datenbank-archiv/datenbank/jakob-de-backer.html [last accessed 29 April 2013]). A reduced version, without the figure of Chronos but with the burning house in the background...
