About this work
Vorliegende Komposition basiert auf einer Erfindung Giovanni Bellinis, die sich in zahlreichen Varianten verschiedener Künstler aus dem Bellini-Umkreis erhalten hat (vgl. Heinemann 1962, S. 32 f.). Eine vergleichbare von Giovanni Bellini in Zusammenarbeit mit Francesco di Simone da Santa Croce ausgeführte Darstellung befindet sich in der Sammlung Chercas in Santa Monica.
