About this work
Among the copies after works by Hans Holbein in the Faesch collection, the present work and its associated Inv. 786 attract special interest. It depicts Anna, daughter of the Basel mayor Jacob Meyer, based on his Madonna painting, likely commissioned around 1525/26, which shows the donor within his family circle. Anna's daughter was the grandmother of the collection's founder, Remigius Faesch (1595–1667). The famous Madonna painting, so-called Darmstadt Madonna (now Würth Collection, Schwäbisch Hall)...
