About this work
The unsigned counterparts Inv. 765 and 766 were donated in 1851 as alleged Holbeins, hence later catalogued as copies after Hans Holbein the Younger, with whom they have nothing to do. The isolated Ecce Homo Christ has been paired by Titian, among others, with a Madonna (Madrid, Museo del Prado, Inv. P00437, P00443), with the Madrid Christ (Inv. 765) being quite close.
