Der Hügel mit der Windmühle rechts im Bild kommt vergleichbar in mehreren Dorflandschaften Jan Brueghels d. Ä. vor, die Klaus Ertz (Ertz 2008) unter dem Titel "Dorfeingang mit Windmühle" beschreibt. Eine wie die Basler Komposition auf Kupfer gemalte Fassung bewahrt u. a. das Kunsthistorische Museum in Wien ("Dorfstrasse", um 1603 , Inv. Nr. 6329).
