About this work
Copy after Veronese's altarpiece in the church of San Giorgio in Braida, Verona. Traditionally dated to 1566, the painting is now considered to have been created sometime between 1552 and 1564. Further copies, much larger in format, are preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lille (Inv. P 14) and the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge (Inv. 181); see Terisio Pignatti, Filippo Pedrocco: Veronese. L'opera completa, Milan 1995, pp. 255–256, no. 153.
