As Pierre Rosenberg first noted (letter of March 27, 1964), Inv. 1270 copies Champaigne's signed and dated 1663 large-format painting for the former Paris Charterhouse in Vauvert (now Angers, Musée des Beaux-Arts; Dorival no. 51).
