About this work
The sitters, counter-clockwise: in the lower right corner Hermann Scherer himself, above him the painter Albert Müller, then the violinist Edmund Schaeffer (with top hat), Anna Müller (wife of Albert Müller), Martha Hoerler (later wife of Paul Camenisch), Georg Schmidt (later director of the Kunstmuseum Basel), and Fritz Sulzbachner (older brother of the artist Max Sulzbachner). (Walter 2006, p. 295). Legendary parties took place in Scherer's studio at Steinbachgässli 38.
