About this work
After the acquisition of the work, it was unequivocally attributed to Courbet in the annual report of 1930 and dated to the mid-1850s. According to a letter from Franz Meyer to Beat Von der Mühll dated January 15, 1972, Gaston Delestre of the Société des amis de Gustave Courbet denied the work to Courbet around 1966 and proposed Cherubino Patà as the author.
