About this work
Because of its loan to a Basel school for over 50 years, Cranach research has so far not paid attention to the picture. Only in 2010 did Gunnar Heydenreich recognize it as a good version of the well-known Melanchthon portrait by Lucas Cranach the Younger (See http://www.lucascranach.org/digitalarchive.php under CH_KMB_1015).
