About this work
According to an unpublished letter from the artist dated January 20, 1942, to the Kunstmuseum Basel, the painting was created in the winter of 1894/95 in Loschwitz near Dresden, where she stayed from 1893 to 1895 as a private student under, among others, the marine painter Johann Ernst Sattler; shortly thereafter she moved to Hans Thoma in Frankfurt am Main.
