About this work

It is a copy, likely after the lost painting by Peter Paul Rubens formerly in the Manfrotti collection in Venice, which is preserved through a print by Pietro Monaco and several copies. One of these copies was formerly in the Muzeum Narodowe in Warsaw (cf. Richard Judson: Rubens. The Passion of Christ (Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard, Part 6), London 2000, p. 73, No. 16 and figs. 48, 49).
