About this work
Copy after a composition by Peter Paul Rubens, whose original version Rubens painted for the Spanish King Philip IV and brought to Madrid in 1628. The painting was located in the royal palace Alcázar, where it fell victim to the great fire of 1734. It is preserved through a workshop copy in the Szépmüvészeti Múzeum in Budapest and several oil sketches, among others in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
