About this work
The Rebecca figure was created in Rome in 1841; a partially gilded plaster version of this motif is held in the collection of the Bernese Art Society (Inv. P 51, illustrated in Kunstmuseum Bern. Die Skulpturen und Objekte, Bern 1986, no. 88). For the first two versions in marble, Imhof personally sourced spotless white marble from the newly opened quarry in Carrara (SKL 1905–17, vol. 2, p. 128; illustrated in Ausst.-Kat.
