About this work
The portrait depicts the art historian Heinrich Wölfflin (born June 21, 1864, in Winterthur; died July 19, 1945, in Zurich), who was a professor at the University of Basel from 1893 to 1901. Haller met Heinrich Wölfflin in Rome in 1904. The bust was a commissioned work by Wölfflin for his sixtieth birthday. Haller modeled it after a portrait photograph (Apel 1996, p. 137).
