About this work

The origin of the attribution to François Boucher's successor as royal first court painter remains unclear. Nicolas Lesur and Olivier Aaron (Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre, 1714–1789, premier peintre du roi, Paris, 2009) apparently do not consider Inv. 487.
