About this work
Stückelberg painted this work following a longer stay in Anticoli Corrado. The sketches created in this area were each labeled by him with the name of the place, whereas he then topographically misplaced the procession in the painting into the idealized Sabine Mountains (cf. Exhibition Catalogue Basel 2003, p. 42). In January 1861, the painting was exhibited for one week at the Basel Stadtcasino. At that time, it had been mentioned in the "Kunstbericht aus Zürich" by Gottfrie.
