About this work
Carl Friedrich Drollinger (1688–1742) was the head of the Baden-Durlach collections in Basel. In 1711 he was appointed Registrar of the Archives by the Margrave, in 1722 he was appointed Court Councillor, and in 1726 he received the title of "Privy Councillor". In Basel, he was friends, among others, with Chevalier Lucas Schaub (cf. his portrait by Hyacinthe Rigaud, Inv. 505) as well as with Johann Rudolf Huber, who painted the present portrait of him. As one of the first, he also expressed himself as a D.
