About this work

The viewer's perspective towards the reliquary chest depicted on the exterior confirms that this is a right wing. Belonging to it is an interior wing panel in Berlin (Gemäldegalerie, Cat. 1673) showing the Council of the Trinity for the Redemption of Mankind and the Visitation. If attached to the left side, this sequence of scenes would have found its continuation in the Basel Nativity. For the lost left exterior, carrying the Cross and/or the Crucifixion can be assumed, which then...
