About this work
Derselbe Torbogen ist auf einem Kupferstich zu erkennen, den Giovanni Battista Brustolon nach einem wahrscheinlich verlorenen Gemälde von Antonio Canal gen. Canaletto ausgeführt hatte (Abb. siehe André Corboz: Canaletto: una Venezia immaginaria, 2 Bde., Venedig 1985, Bd. 1, S. 187, Abb. 178). Das Basler Capriccio entstand vermutlich ebenfalls nach diesem heute nicht bekannten Gemälde. Damit ist der Maler wohl im Umkreis Canalettos zu suchen.
