About this work
Die Tafel ist zusammengehörig mit der Geburt Christi (Inv. 536). Fritz Heinemann schrieb beide Tafeln einem im 16. Jahrhundert tätigen Francesco da Santa Croce d. J. zu (Sohn des Girolamo da Santa Croce), meinte aber vielleicht den hier genannten Francesco di Simone. Mauro Natale schlug im Ausst.-Kat. Pfäffikon/Genf 1978 aufgrund des Vergleiches mit einer Anbetung des Kindes im Worcester Art Museum den in Udine tätigen Girolamo di Bernardo da Udine als Maler der Basler Tafeln vor.
