About this work
According to the inventory card and auction catalog Heberle, Cologne, 27–29 March 1893 (collection of Marie von Robert), the young man is a member of the Harling family; the coats of arms are said to indicate the families van der Myle and van Beveren, though the source for this information could not be traced, nor could the attribution to a Dordrecht master. The date 1514 on the frame likely does not refer to the painting, which more probably dates from the second quarter of the century.
