STS-102 Mission Specialist Andrew Thomas climbs into the driver’s seat of the M-113 armored carrier he will practice driving. In the event of an emergency at the pad prior to launch, the carrier could be used to transport the crew to a nearby bunker or farther. The STS-102 crew is at KSC to take part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities, which also include a simulated launch countdown.
