Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — As part of emergency escape training at Launch Pad 39A, the STS-100 crew climb into slidewire baskets that, during a real emergency, would propel them off the Fixed Service Structure to a landing area away from the pad. The crew is taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities that also include a simulated launch countdown. The mission is carrying the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Raffaello and the SSRMS, to the International Space Station.
