Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — In high bay 1 of the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the 122-foot-long orbiter Discovery is suspended in mid-air after being lifted away from the 154-foot-high External Tank (below) and Solid Rocket Boosters. After demating from its External Tank (ET), the orbiter will be placed on a transporter in the transfer aisle and moved to high bay 3 for remating with another tank, ET-121.
