51A-90015 (8 Nov. 1984) --- John W. Young, who has seen many launches from various angles, used a handheld camera to record this scene of the very early phase of launch for NASA's space shuttle Discovery. Young was flying the NASA shuttle training aircraft (STA). Shuttle Discovery (51A) is seen as a spot of light at the top of a column of smoke outlined among the dense cloud cover.
