About this work
This picture of Neptune was produced from images taken through the ultraviolet, violet and green filters of the Voyager 2 wide-angle camera. This 'false' color image has been made to show clearly details of the cloud structure and to paint clouds located at different altitudes with different colors. Dark, deeplying clouds tend to be masked in the ultraviolet wavelength since overlying air molecules are particularly effective in scattering sunlight there which brightens the sky above them.
