Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — Seated in a slidewire basket at the 195-foot level of the Fixed Service Structure, Launch Pad 39A, are (left to right) STS-101 Commander James D. Halsell Jr. and Pilot Scott J. "Doc" Horowitz. Halsell is reaching to pull the release lever that will send the basket shooting down the 1,200-foot slidewire to a bunker west of the launch pad.
