Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — An adult Black-necked Stilt seems to be giving its chick a dancing lesson. The chick already displays the long neck and legs of the adult. The species inhabits salt marshes and shallow coastal bays in the East, as well as freshwater marshes in the West. They are found along the Atlantic Coast from Delaware to northern South America. The black and white markings, long red legs and straight, very thin bill make the stilt very recognizable.
