Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — Sitting in a slidewire basket on the 195-foot level of the Fixed Service Structure, Launch Pad 39B, are STS-112 Commander Jeffrey Ashby (left foreground) and Pilot Pamela Melroy. They and the rest of the crew are practicing emergency egress from the pad during Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities. Mission STS-112 aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to launch no earlier than Oct. 2, between 2 and 6 p.m. EDT.
