Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — This lake north of Kennedy Space Center attracts a myriad of birds, such as the white ibis (left), roseate spoonbill (center) and little blue heron (right) seen here. The Center shares a boundary north, south and west with the 92,000-acre Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, which is a habitat for more than 310 species of birds, 25 mammals, 117 fishes and 65 amphibians and reptiles.
